How we check facts
Sources we use
- Official statements: the RTA and Dubai Media Office, police forces, the Ministry of Interior, and federal standards bodies (ESMA, now part of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology).
- Federal law as published on the UAE Legislation portal.
- Manufacturer and authorised-dealer specification pages for tyre sizes.
- Established news outlets (Gulf News, Khaleej Times, The National) for what authorities have said and when.
- Independent tyre tests such as ADAC's, with their size, date and test conditions stated.
Retailer pages are used only for dated price snapshots, never as a source for rules. Brand-backed or sponsored articles are labelled as such.
Dates
Each guide shows when it was published and updated, and each source shows when we last checked it. Old rules are described with their year ("the 2012 ESMA scheme"). Where a news page shows a newer "updated" date than the story it carries, we use the story's date.
"Not yet verified" and "unconfirmed"
If we can't trace a figure to an official, manufacturer or dealer source, we say so. In the tyre size table, a value marked "not yet verified" is one we have not yet captured from a manufacturer or authorised dealer.
What we won't do
- Imply that we are, or speak for, the RTA, the police or any ministry.
- Rank tyre brands or sellers, or call any of them "the best".
- Advise exceeding the load, speed or pressure figures on your door label, repairing sidewalls, or driving on under-inflated tyres on the road.
- Repeat unsourced insurance thresholds. Check your own policy wording.
- Publish invented reviews, testimonials or "fitter-reviewed" bylines.
Corrections
If something is wrong or out of date, tell us. We check corrections against the source and note material corrections at the end of the article.
